Amelanchier laevis | Allegheny Serviceberry

This North American native shrub develops with time into a small tree. It produces an abundance of fragrant, showy white flowers in spring followed by edible purple-red fruit in early summer. Birds find the fruit irresistable and will strip plants within hours. Amelanchier thrives in full sun or part shade and average, moist, well-drained soils.
